Thanks for the great writeup. I want to be clear that we aren’t republishing the XMPP stream, although who knows what could happen in the future if we provide value for Twitter starting today.

For now, we are truning the XMPP feed into a notification stream and then serving it up (and sending it out to anyone who maintains a list of relevant users on Gnipcentral.com) so that they can effectively and efficiently poll Twitter’s API. 100 queries goes a long way when you’re only asking for data when someone posts a tweet.

I don’t see it as a battle, but it surely isn’t over. Never is. It’s an ebb and flow, one day they’re more open, next day they pull back. It’s a big dance, lots of people at the party. Now let’s see what the developers do.
