I'm intrigued by the quote that Zuckerberg is unconcerned by user feedback- I doubt it's entirely true, obviously he's cashed in and wants to keep doing so, and having more users is how that happens. But at the same time, let's consider how facebook users voice they're opinions: they make "go back to the old facebook" groups! On the new version of facebook! Their actions are more valuable user feedback than what they claim to be annoyed by- they're saying "do something we don't like and we'll build you some content for free because we're stuck here."

The thing about facebook is that they still have the greatest functionality overall. That's why users can get pissed about all the different changes and still stick with it. The problem is that there is a point when people will start leaving, and that point is coming soon...

1) hide or delete all emails from the obsession.
2) delete all links to their myspace, flickr, facebook, etc.
3) remove phone # from cell.
4) keep busy with other fun people- preferably not friends of the obsession!

facebook, twitter, friendfeed.... what's the difference? they all basically do the same thing now. i can update my status with my facebook account as much as I want and i can make it say whatever i want. what's the difference between facebook and twitter? except that facebook has many more users and allows users to have a more comprehensive profiles.

doesn't anyone else see how twitter is just going to get a fan base before adding it's own comprehensive profile? and then we'll have to log into 2 locations and keep track of 2 sets of friends and we'll have 2 status updates to keep track up and we'll wast 2x as much time and then facebook will buy twitter and we'll be back to where we started.

Here's the simple fact of it. A ton of people don't use Friend Feed because the interface is absolute garbage. Of those that overcome it and do use Friend Feed a large portion still only tolerate it because of the value the service provides.

Emulating Friend Feed design elements was an idiotic decision that shows a blatant lack of appreciation for the importance a UI plays in a service's adoption and user opinion.

It's not about the new services they added - those are all great. It's about moving backwards instead of forwards from an interface standpoint.

@Tom

In fact, here's what a professor said about them (are you smarter than a professor Tom?):

“I've seen thousands of new product ideas and business plans over the years--both from teaching MBA and Entrepreneurship courses at USF, and through my business consulting with numerous startups and growth companies. I have to say that EEI, especially with its exciting all-in-one-place ”YourNight” concept, is among my ‘TOP 5’ EVER. The Founder/CEO exudes ‘entrepreneurial spirit’ and his New Venture Team is solidly on the road to create a great success.”
~Dr. Ken Van Voorhis, Professor Emeritus and Founder of the Small Business Institute and Small Business Development Center at USF; as well as President of Effective Performance, Inc.

Exactly. In my company we test changes to our website on a small sample of our customers, and then use the test results to roll out the winner to the entire customer base. Facebook skipped a step here.

Honestly look at the flipside. Do you realize how much Facebook has made Myspace work to get them up to par? They've realized that Facebook has been grabbing much more attention and decided to add things like: status updates, 3rd party applications, and now a similar status update "wall" just like Facebook. Most people insist that Facebook stole these ideas from Myspace.. Two-to-three years ago Myspace was just about posting bulletins, and commenting on someone's page.

They've climbed to the top of the hill fairly fast and are slowing down with innovation and have to borrow things from other sites that have worked well.. Everyone has done it. They will continue to do it. Unlike a tride-and-true corporate pen-and-paper venture that would take weeks or even months to update the look, a social networking website can take however long it takes to code and with a press of a button deploy a brand new UI. This will not be the last update to the page so everyone needs to chill.

They’ve realized that Facebook has been grabbing much more attention and decided to add things like: status updates, 3rd party applications, and now a similar status update “wall” just like Facebook. Most people insist that Facebook stole these ideas from Myspace.. Two-to-three years ago Myspace was just about posting bulletins, and commenting on someone’s page.

They’ve climbed to the top of the hill fairly fast and are slowing down with innovation and have to borrow things from other sites that have worked well..

Which is ironic because everything that i've been reading about complaint wise on Facebook is that it has "way too much information and it's overwhelming". I agree with you, there's not enough for me honestly.

I liked the old functionality of "show more of this user" or "show less". That was a sweet function they pulled out.

We have to remember that while Facebook might be copying or using the same method that has brought Twitter and Friendfeed so much success, it is still its own entity with many other features that the others don't necessarily have. So while the design is different, the core basics of Facebook are still there. It has more of the "live action" feel that Twitter has, but it's still Facebook.
