"And of course there’s nothing to prevent Twitter from restoring Track themselves should either or both competitors prove successful with their versions of Track."

Steve, outstanding write-up and I'm still making my way through the videos (which are looking great). I wanted to say that I believe I am in agreement with the overarching summary of how Twitter has damaged and is still damaging its community. However, I was a bit confused on this line:

"That’s one of the reasons FriendFeed, along with Facebook to some extent and even Twitter itself, represent better bets than others."

Prior to this, you seem to indicate that Twitter was a tough service to invest time and/or energy b/c of the private relationships being formed, and then you lawd them as a possible game changer (which I would agree the potential still exists). However, I'm a little confused. Could you help me understand what I missed?

Warmest Regards,
Ken Stewart

Yeah, well if it ain't popping up on my cellphone as I'm maneuvering through streets of Manila trying to avoid blockades in midst of a developing (but eventually failed) coup de d'etat as actually happened with the "original" Twitter track - then it aint' track IMO!

Same for my wife's ability to have my Manila statuses pushed to her via SMS while she's in the mountains of Mindanao - which is the way she used the original Track.

We here in the 3rd world miss it. It was frickin' amazing.
